Aces Take Three of Four Points on Weekend
The Dunny’s Source for Sports Atom C Stratford Aces managed to take three of a possible four points in two games this past weekend. Saturday’s game was on the road against the Woodstock Wildcats in the first meeting of the two teams this year.

The Wildcats had finished right behind the Aces in the opening segment of the WOGHL.  It took a few periods for the Aces to match the level of intensity they demonstrated in their second place finish in the recent Festival Cup.  Both teams had a hard time creating offensive chances until the third period, when Katelynn McMahon made one of her patented rushes down the right side of the ice to score on the Wildcats netminder.  This proved to be the game winner, and the Aces escaped with a 1-0 victory.
On Sunday, the girls were at home to face the B.A.D. Girl Blazers.  The game featured few chances by both teams in the first period. However, the B.A.D. Girls struck first after a persistent rush by a Blazer forward who was able to break free inside the blue line and score on Aces goalie Peyton Boyles Keating before the end of the first. The Aces found their legs in the second period, which led to a scramble out in front of the Blazers net, where Cassidy Nelemans fired a hard shot at the Blazers goalie, who kicked out her pad to make the save.  Later in the second, Peyton Barclay started a breakout from behind the Aces net, fed Katie Wheal, who forwarded the puck to Katelynn, who rushed the length of the ice and scored in the top of the Blazers net to tie the game at 1. The Aces offence continued to improve in the third period leading to several shots.  Rachel Barber and Abby Iacobellis connected on a pretty passing play, but were unable to solve the B.A.D. goalie.  Final score 1-1. The Aces face a tough test this weekend when they play the undefeated Lambton Attack in a home and home series.  A victory Saturday could make the girls even more excited for their secret Santa exchange Saturday night!
