Aces Fall to Irish in Regular Season Opener
The Dunny’s Source for Sports Atom C Stratford Aces played host to the Lucan Irish this past Sunday, to open the regular season in the Western Ontario Girls Hockey League.

The Aces, playing their first game in eight days, found themselves on their heels in the opening five minutes of the game.  Midway through the first the Irish were able to spring their top forward on a breakaway.  Number Nine for Lucan made a great move to beat netminder Peyton Boyles-Keating and put the Irish up 1-0.  Boyles-Keating was called upon a few minutes later on another breakaway, this time she made a beautiful glove save on the Irish player.  This seemed to stir the Aces offense, which led to some offensive pressure in the later stages of the first period. The Aces were led by the solid defending of Maeve Moss and Rachel Barber in a scoreless second period, but still had a hard time finding their way offensively. In the third period, the Aces offense awoke when Adele Helson found Abby Iacobellis at the red line with a clearing pass.  Iacobellis broke free of two Lucan defenders and scored, to tie the game at one.  Late in the third, with the Aces trapped in their own end, Number Nine of the Irish corralled the puck and made another nice move to score and put the Irish up 2-1.  The Aces pulled their goalie with just over a minute left in the third, but were unable to score.  Final score 2-1, Lucan. The Aces next meet the Huron Heat on Tuesday in Seaforth.
