Aces vs B.A.D Blazers - Sunday Sept 30
The Dunny's Source for Sports Atom C Aces traveled to Belmont to execute their game plan of team work, crisp passing and heads up play.

1st Period   Gritty play off the face off by Piper, determined to control the puck and set the Aces up with their first offensive charge. Helson held the blue line, cycling the puck back into the offensive zone, giving the Aces forwards multiple chances to setup a scoring opportunity. Second line came out just as strong. Aces gunner narrowly missed opening the score as her shot missed the corner of the net. The Blazers cleared their zone, but the puck was intercepted and a great pass from Cassidy sent Aces forwards streaking to the offensive on again. As the Blazers carried the puck out of their zone, Aces defenders Moss and Barclay clamped down on the Blazer forward that cut across the blue line, shutting down their scoring chance. The young Aces breakout drill was on display as they routinely cleared the puck from behind the net to their forwards, turning the play back to the offensive.   2nd Period   Early in the second, Richardson slashed through the Blazer defenders only to have her shot turned away by the BLazer’s net-minder. Katie battled hard against the larger BAD forward, showing that determination pays off as she freed the puck from along the boards sending it deep into Blazer territory. Taking skills recently acquired in practise, Maeve leaned on her stick to fire a shot from the blue line, but a deflection from a defender’s stick sent it wide of the mark. Great hustle by Taylor on the back check broke up a break away opportunity by Blazer forward. No score at end of 2.   3rd Period   A lunging paddle save by Peyton kept the Blazers off the board. Team work and passing was on display in the third as the Aces continued their swarming style of play, limiting the Blazers chances. Aces went down a defender at 6:12 with a penalty. Killing off the penalty would test the young Aces. Backed up by a key save from Peyton, the short-handed Aces kept up the pressure, shutting the door on the frustrated Blazer forwards. Even though the game ended in a tie the girls came away with a victorious spirit knowing that they had checked all the boxes on the challenges presented to them during their coaches’ pre-game pep talk : teamwork, crisp passing and heads up play. Not to mention, they all had a lot of fun.
