NotesIt was a dark and stormy night and the
Perth Auto Dismantlers Atom A arrived at the remote Howick arena ready to do
battle with their rivals, Saugeen Maitland Lightning.
Period
one saw the well matched teams battle it out, executing plays and moving the
puck from end to end, until, on her way into the penalty box, centreman, Lauren
Leis, accidentally slammed the door on her finger, hindering her ability to
rejoin her team, causing the bench to shift from three lines with 2 centremen,
to 1 centre and multiple wingers taking the puck drop. Taking advantage of this
temporary discombobulation, Saugeen rushed with the puck, finding the top
corner over a screened Grace Kipfer’s right shoulder, allowing them to take the
lead, 1-0. This goal was followed by a scramble that saw a second goal slip in,
making the score 2-0 at the end of the first period.
Leis, unable to return to the ice, sat and watched as her team
mates quickly reset their lines and took to the ice in period 2 with a
determination to get that lost goal back. Less than 2 minutes in, Ella Taylor,
on a pass from Eve Binns and Emersyn Miller fired a shot low and through
Saugeen’s goalie to close the gap to 2-1.
Unfortunately, the third period saw both teams battle hard to
gain the advantage, but even with a pulled goalie, The Aces were unable to tie
the game up. Honourable mention goes to the six players on the ice who did
everything they could to ensure a third goal was unattainable while goalie
Grace Kipfer was watching from the bench.
Next up for the Aces, Aces Day on Sunday, November 11.
