NotesThe Perth Auto Dismantlers Atom A girls had
a lone game this past weekend prior to some time off the ice, and it was clear
from puck drop that they were going use these three periods to their fullest
extent, leaving it all on the ice and use this much anticipated rematch against
Saugeen Maitland to defend their current first place ranking. Goaltender Sloan Cameron was
in position and ready to solidify the last line of defence when the team took
to the ice. It didn’t take long to see that the girls had come to win, spending
a lot of time moving the puck into the zone, passing behind the net, and then
out front, where this finally paid off at the 2:17 minute remaining mark in the
first period, winger Lila
Mortimer scored on a pass from Emersyn Miller to
prove that dominating the first few minutes of play do indeed set the tone for
a game.
The remainder of the period saw a lot of great back and forth
action, with goaltender Sloan Cameron fighting off the opposing team to keep
the period solid at 1-0. The second period continued on the same way, until
again, at the 2:21 min remaining mark, centreman Emersyn Miller, on a
pass in from the blue line by defenceman Maren Marshall, to pull the team ahead
2-0. Saugeen got a quick goal in the final few minutes of the second period to
end the period at 2-1.
Period three brought the crazy and we saw both teams travel end
to end, challenging each other and the opposing team until a quick two goals
saw the Lightening pull ahead, 3-2. The Aces battled, passed, and moved the
puck up to where centreman, Lauren
Leis, found the net after fellow centreman, Emersyn Miller shot
on net, then winger Lila
Mortimer picked up the wild rebound off the boards and
fired it back to the front of the net where Leis flipped it in to tie up the
game in the last minute of play.
After an intense, penalty-less game, the teams left the ice with
a 3-3 tie, seeing the Aces secure their top spot in the Lower Lakes Female
Hockey League Atom A division for another day.
The team sends their condolences and support to goaltender Sloan Cameron, Coach, Sean Cameron and
trainer Mel Cameron on
the sudden loss of Sean’s mother and Sloan’s Granny, Christine Cameron. Know
that you are in our thoughts and hearts during this difficult time.
