What a
better way to end a season by competing amongst friends
The Stratford Novice B Aces put together a great season and ended it by having their final game against a friend foe in the Novice C team. A fantasy pool was conducted to mix up and draw out teams for this epic battle. Once completed, it was set in stone for a classic Red vs White game on the Molson pad. The girls had only one request, music was to be played during warm us and between whistles. Insert DJ Smith who blared his own play list of Katy Perry, N’Sync, and Cardi B. While he insisted that the play list was Emerie’s, his lip singing and dance moves in the score box indicated his strong familiarity with the music.
Team Red came out of the gates hard in the first half of the game and took a 4-1 lead. There was a sense of a blow out amongst the fans in the stadium. Celebrity coach’s Meg Feore and Avery Nickel needed a spark. From the cheers on the White bench you could feel that the half time speech resonated with the player…………………….cue the comeback.
In what felt like a game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, the White team filled the net with relentless pressure and took a 5-4 lead, only to have team Red find the back of the net to tie it at 5-5. There was an epic cheer from both ends of the bench as DJ Smith serenaded the girls off the ice to the epic words of the great Freddie Mercury “we are the champions my friend’s” As a fan in the stands I couldn’t have thought of a better ending.
We proved one thing during this season finale. No matter what team we play for, and no matter what the name is on the back of the jersey, when a group of girls come together and suit up for the greatest game on earth...............we are all Aces!!!!
