Appel's Ringer Ensures Weekend Road Draw
Boom-Boom Nickel along with her Ace Core Hold Devillettes to 1-1 Draw

The Rod Smith Novice B Aces braved the cold snowy roads of Perth and Middlesex counties to face the London Devillettes Saturday morning at the Kinsmen Arena in the heart of London. This game put the strength of the Ace defensive core on display for the road crowd as the entire unit ensured net minder Reese Flanagan was protected and to ensure that the Ace offence were given opportunity as well. Led by Ace D of the game Leighton 'boom-boom' Nickel whose defensive zone crease physical tie ups and tie downs prevented any shots in the slot or rebound chances in front of Flanagan.  Nickel was helped by the rest of the D unit; Stokes, Donnelly, Burdett, Finnie and Nyenhuis whose zone defense and excellent communication is what made the difference against a tough London offence. Early in the first, Ace offensive rifler and O of the game Niahm Appel took a puck from her blue line and marched directly for the Devillette target and unleashed a bullet up over the London net minder and directly under the cross bar while the road crowd marveled at the finesse and accuracy of the shot that put the Aces up 1-0. In the second, the Devillettes were able to even up the game sneaking one past Flanny tying things up 1-1.  The Ace D held London back while the London D pushed back against a persistent Ace offense for the remainder of the game as the two teams ended in 1-1 road draw.

The Aces head back on the road to London this weekend to try to solve the Devillettes yet again as they inch closer and closer to the LLFHL playoffs.
