Gryphons Shudder to Aces while Heat Continue to Have the Aces Number
Aces Split Weekend on the Road

The Rod Smith Financial Stratford Novice B Aces maintain the middle of the LLFHL central west division in fifth place with 6 points after splitting the weekend on the road.

The Aces travelled to Guelph Saturday evening to put on a show against the Guelph Jr Gryphons for the Stratford road crowd.  Jule Cameron opened the scoring with her 8th goal of the young season followed by goals from Brooklyn Finnie from her newly minted position at the point which also earned her defensive player of the game. Linley Porter, Pippa Nyenhuis and Kiera Blain added to the offensive scoring.  For her continued grit and determination Charlee MacFarlane earned the offensive helmet in the 5-1 final.

The Aces travelled to the Eastlink Arena in Clinton on Sunday to face their rivals the Huron Heat for the second game of their weekend on the road. Ace forward Jule Cameron pounded the net early and surprised the Heat to put the girls up 1-0. The goal was quickly answered by the heat with two quick responses putting the heat back in control 2-1 after three minutes of play. The game settled as both net minders found their game flow to keep the net sealed for most of the rest of the game.  With three minutes left and the intensity rising on the Ace bench, the girls pressed hard for the equalizer which prompted a return break for the heat in on Ace net minder Reese Flanagan.  The heat lifted their third past the sprawling ace lifting the Heat up to a 3-1 lead.  The Aces however would not relent and pressured the heat using an extra attacker to the end. Niahm Appel earned herself another defensive player of the game while the tenacity of Emerie Smith provided her with the offensive helmet.

Coach Cameron commented that in practice this week the girls are focusing on hard skating and making lots of shots in preparation for a big weekend with the Twin City Heracanes.  On Aces day Sunday the girls host the league leading Woolwich Wild. Remember to tell you family and friend to come watch the Aces and bring non perishable food items for the Aces day Food Drive!
