Rod Smith Novice B Aces Moms Take To The Ice
Aces Moms Show Us The True Spirit Of Girls Hockey Week

The stage was set for the race of the year.  With helmets on and spirits high, the Rod Smith Novice B Aces moms took to the ice to show off their skills in front of their daughters.  Celebrating World Girls hockey weekend, the Novice B Aces moms joined practice on Friday night to celebrate and join in on the fun.  After a quick warm up, the moms were poised to take part in the race of the century.  A quick start out of the gate from Aces manager, Brianne Smith, set the stage for the classic slide under the hockey stick and pylon’s.  Speed and tenacity was evident in the epic tight turn and a spirited slides displayed by Natalie Minshall, Lisa Barton, and Julee Nickel.  No fear was shown when it was evident the moms were falling behind as Denise Burdett, and Andrea Finnie closed the gap.  A questionable slide, that reminded everyone of Kelly Gruber’s failed triple play in the 92 World Series, was on display by Melanie Cameron.   Danielle Porter, Kara Bowman, and Hayley Flanagan pulled up their straps and anchored the team to finish the race.  When we went to the tape, the young Aces pulled out the victory, but everyone quickly realized we all win during World Girls hockey week.

Special thanks to Delia Brander, Hen Shultz and Heather Blain for keeping their teammates hydrated on the bench as everyone contributed to this great event.

After practice the girls grabbed a quick snack and moved on to the Mindful Kids training provided by Melissa Hishon.  Melisa spent an hour with the girls to provide them with the tools to dial themselves in for the season ahead.

The girls became experts in mindful tools associated with Mindful Sports.  After the introduction of mindfulness, the girls practiced and connected their tools to their sport of hockey.  A special thank you to Melissa for her fantastic session.  The girls learned a lot and we are seeing the results of the training!!
