Aces Come Out Even After Weekend Exhibition
Rod Smith Financial Novice B Aces Tame Wild Sunday after a Sabre Rattling Saturday

The Rod Smith Aces traveled to Huron Park Saturday morning to face the South Huron Sabres where the Sabres found their way through the Aces lineup and exposed some positional gaps for the Aces to fill before the season starts.  The Sabres were able to penetrate the defense and net 6 against the defensive player of the game Reese Flanagan.  The lone Ace answer came from offensive Ace of the game Pippa Nyenhuis on a late game breakout wrister past the Sabre net minder.  Post game comments from coach Cameron emphasized the work the Aces have in front of them while never taking advantage of any previously known cliches .... 'It's a process, and that's whats great about exhibition games.  We can learn where we need to improve, and we can learn what it's going to take to get us back on track.  We regroup, we move forward, and we take the next step. The good news is the slate is clean for tomorrow , and we prepare for (our next game tomorrow).'  Period.  Let's put that game on Ice.

With that exquisite post game breakdown from Cameron the girls marched in the Allman Arena Sunday morning to face the Woolwich Wild for the second time in pre-season play. The Ace coaching staff made some minor adjustments to the lineup by betting on the reciprocating two-way play from the Nickel cousins Gianna and Leighton. The girls tore out of the gate and took the play to the Wild early and often.  Keira Blain blazed in from the wing late in the first on a feed from new forward Gianna Nickel and fired a shot through a bewildered Wild goalie while Pippa Nyenhuis took a pass from Avery Stokes and went forehand to backhand past the Wild keeper in the second to make it 2-0.  The Wild fought back but the stone wall of Flanagan as well as the excellent defensive positional play of Ace defensive player of the game Clare Donnelly kept the Wild to just one late goal keeping the Aces ahead 2-1 for the win. The scrappy play deep in the corners of Ace rookie Brooklyn Finnie earned her offensive player of the game for the Aces.

The Aces face the Cambridge Roadrunners for their 4th exhibition match Sunday in Cambridge.
