Kinsmen Novice C Aces Capture Division Title
Aces Finish Season With Six Straight Wins and Throttle the Division from the Blazers on The League`s Final Day

The Kinsmen Novice C Aces made up 6 points in two weeks on the League leading BAD Blazers by driving through the West Oxford Inferno in a home and home series this weekend.

Incredible team play, fiery offense, stonewalled goal tending, and a rock solid defense that held the line and prevented any opposition chances ensured a thrilling end for the Aces regular season.

In a Saturday morning match up at home against the Inferno, the Aces went directly to work displaying their team`s discipline allowing only a few shots on goalie Maeve Moss.  With the inferno offense neutralized, Ace gunner and game MVP Pippa Nyenhuis took to the ice to score four unanswered goals on the Inferno.  Moss maintained her cool composure throughout the game stealing chances from late game Inferno shots ensuring the shut-out, her first as an Ace in the 4-0 win.

The win gave the Aces their fifth straight and landed them only one point behind the BAD Blazers for the division title.  The Aces knew going into Sundays game that they needed to pull out a win with a simultaneous Blazer loss or tie against the Huron Heat to claim the division.  The stakes were unquestionably high going into Sunday`s game in Ingersoll.

A highly spirited Ace team entered the Ingersoll barn determined to play to claim that title.  Earlier that day the Heat had held the Blazers to a 5-5 tie.  A win would determine their fortune. The Inferno would play king maker but were determined to make it very difficult.

The Inferno came out of the gates on fire.  They took their play to Ace net-minder Reece Flanagan.  The Aces were on their heels early as Flanagan`s net coverage kept the puck out.  After a scoreless first an anxious road crowd looked on as the Inferno continued their battery of the Ace net.  Mid-way through the second the inferno finally slammed one past a sprawling Flanagan.  The Aces were down 1-0. Ace gunners Cameron and Nyenhuis who were uncharacteristically cool thus far decided it was their moment to reload their cannons.  Some late game line juggling form coach Hruden allowed the space the two needed to capture that title.  Cameron stole an Inferno puck and streaked to the Inferno net late in the second and blasted one in. It was 1-1 headed to the third period.  The late second period goal provided the lift the Aces needed and the girls took the play back at the Inferno.  Maeve Moss began a defensive breakout and held on to the puck deep into the Inferno zone.  An ingenious behind the net bank pass found Pippa Nyenhuis`stick right in front of a bewildered Inferno goalie  and she buried her shot taking the 2-1 lead.  Determined in front of the net offensive play throughout the game by Ava Langis earned her the game MVP. The girls kept their play strong to finish the game and claim the title, a great feat for a team that has shown such incredible improvement.

The girls now enter their divisional and provincial playoffs with confidence as divisional re-seeding and strong local provincial foes will bring up the challenge the Aces need to continue their massive game to game improvement.

Editors note: On Sunday`s game, the Inferno were forced into a 1-0 forfeit to the Aces due to pre-game officiating problems.  With only the team`s management aware of the forfeit, the players and fans participated in the game will full heart and intensity and the symbolic 2-1 win was well deserved.
