Kinsmen Aces Shake off Rust, Squeak by Stars
Helson-Stokes Cousin Connection hold the line allowing Aces offence to
get the job done

The Novice C Aces Hosted the up and coming North Middlesex Jr Stars Friday night at the Molson Arena to an enthusiastic home crowd.

With Maeve Moss suited up in goal, the Ace girls got off to a slow start with need of shaking the rust off their legs after a 13 day game hiatus. Missteps by the Aces in the first allowed a gap for the Jr Stars to break out and pick up the puck beating Moss mid-way through the first.  Feeling the anxiety of the home crowd loom, the Ace forwards responded in the second and the girls started to display the return of their offensive prowess.  Pippa Nyenhuis broke out to tie the game 1-1 early in the second. Nyenhuis added a second goal set up by Charlee MacFarlane to bring the girls ahead 2-1 to end the second frame.  The rising intensity of the Stars at the start of the third put the Aces on their heels as the Stars responded early in the third to tie game back up at 2-2.  Aggressive Ace defenders Helson and Stokes showed their rising level of play chipping the puck deep into the offensive zone and pinching the blue line to keep the puck there allowing Pippa Nyenhuis to set up Katie Wheal for the go ahead goal 3-2 mid way through the third.  Stokes and Helson, along with blue-liners Brinlee Wall and Reece Flanagan kept the Star pressure at bay keeping the girls ahead, giving them their 7th win in league play, good enough to keep the girls in 2nd place, 6 points behind league leaders the BAD Blazers.

The Novice Aces host third place Wallaceburg for a Sunday Matinee at the RBC Arena as the girls look to close the gap of the WOGHL division 3 league leaders.
