Recent Games Recap
The Dunny’s Source for Sports PeeWee A Aces have a winning record in their 5 games since winning the Guelph Tournament.

The first game after the tourney was on Sat. Dec. 16, when the Aces travelled to Sarnia to play the Sting.  The Sting took the lead in the first period, but the Aces tied it up in the second.  It came down to the last 4 min of the game when the Sting scored while the Aces were short handed.  The game ended 2-1 for the Sting on this day.

The next day the London Minors were back in town, and the Aces were hungry to get back to winning.  The first period was a stalemate with neither team scoring. In the second the Aces started their scoring streak.  Neave started it off in the second after Eve and Chan were able to get her the puck and she put a shot from the point past the Minor’s goalie. Next up was Chan when Clara S. passed to Eve down low and she found Chan, who then went across the front of the net to beat the goalie.  The third goal came late in the third when Clara S. passed to Clara L. in the slot.  She had her back to the net and made an amazing back hand pass to Olivia at the side of the net for an easy goal. Maddog finished the scoring off after Bach and KD got her the puck and she dangled around a couple of Minors to put the puck in an empty London net.  Mia recorded a shutout for the 4-0 win.

Our last game before the Christmas Break was against the Majors at home on the 23rd.  The Majors got on the board in the first.  They added another in the middle of the third.  The Aces were looking for their first late in the game when they pulled Chief to put on 6 skaters.  They would not be denied as Feore was able to put one in by banking it off the goalie from behind the net.  With 40 sec still left the girls were still keen to try for the tie. After winning the faceoff we quickly pulled Chief again for the extra skater.  The girls made their way down deep into London’s end and had a great opportunity for a goal, but couldn’t put it in.  The Major’s took the game 2-1.

The girls finished the 2017 year with 2 tournament wins and  a 19-12-9 overall record.  Losing only 12 games in 40 and 10 of those 12 losses were by only 1 goal!  The bench staff are very proud of their play and achievements and are looking forward to more success in 2018.

The first game of 2018 was in London against the Minors on Jan. 6.  With a two week layoff we reminded the girls of the importance to get right back at it with intense play and improved vision of the ice.  We certainly weren’t disappointed as the girls cruzed to a 6-0 win!  Clara L. gathered up 2 goals and 2 assists on 2 goals from her linemate Olivia. KD had a goal on a shot from the point, and Chan also had one on a mini breakaway.  Eve, Neave, Jack, Maddog, and Clara S. all had assists to the goals.  Mia again got the shutout as the girls displayed her dominance over the Minors this season.

Our last game was Jan. 7 against Bluewater at home.  As a potential first round of the playoffs matchup we noted the importance of a win to set the tone going into the playoffs.  The Aces found the net first after Olivia made some great moves to get in tight for a shot on goal.  It almost went in, but Clara L. followed the play to put in the rebound.  Three minutes later the Hawks tied it up as a shot from the right side hit Chief’s blocker and squeezed in between her and the post. However, before the end of the first period the Aces would get a power play.  Playing one of their best power plays of the season, with a perfect breakout, they kept the pressure on and with a great back hand over the screened goalie, Eve scored.  The 2-1 score held until late in the second when Sadie deflected a point shot from Clara S. into the net. Chief redeemed herself after the first goal against, by shutting down the Hawks the rest of the way giving the Aces a 3-1 win.

A 4 point weekend is a great way to start off 2018, and hopefully will set the tone for the games to come!
