Waterloo Ravens Fall Challenge Cup Day 1
The Taylor Fluid Systems Atom B Aces hit the road this weekend to participate in the Waterloo Ravens Fall Challenge Cup.

Game one today pitted the Aces against the hometown favorites, the Waterloo Ravens. It was a fierce and even battle with continuous play back and forth. This was a good thing for the Aces as it kept their blood flowing and bodies warm as the parents froze in the stands. The puck and ice (the only things not frozen) had a mind of their own, and offered the girls some new, previously unseen complications. The girls made the best of this and walked away with a 1-1 tie. The loan goal for the Aces was scored in the first period by Katelynn McMahon who received a centering pass from Paige Campbell to score her first ever goal as an ACE! Congratulations Katelynn. Goaltending and defense were top notch today with great plays made by Ava Neumeister and Lila Mortimer to keep the game at a tie.

Game two saw the Aces face off against the Cold Creek Comets at the Waterloo Memorial Center. This game didn’t start in the face-off circle but in the stands prior to the puck drop. Coach Greg gathered all the girls together and asked some simple questions with equally simple answers.

Coach G: What are we going to do?
Girls: WIN!
Coach G: How are we going to do it?
Girls: SHOOT THE PUCK!

Coach Greg challenged all the girls to get 10 shots on net per period and boy did they get close. It was like the first day of hunting season with all the shots. 5 in the first period, 11 in the second and 7 in the third. All combined to account for the 6-0 win. Goals were scored by Lila Mortimer, Stephanie Tsaltas x2, Deirdre Parsons, Katelynn McMahon, and Devan Taylor. Lila Mortimer could be found after the game signing autographs for her fans for her breakaway goal! Assists came from Katie Helson, Abby Iacobellis x2, Anne Nickel, Grace Laverty and Paige Campbell. Great job Sloan Cameron for keeping your head in the game and recording your first shut out of the regular season.
