Aces defeat Devilettes and Outlaws to advance to Championship Weekend Tournament
The Sommers Generator Systems Atom A Aces have been busy in the last couple weeks, knocking off the London Devilettes and the Chatham Outlaws with three straight wins, paving their way to the championship weekend in Toronto.

On Saturday, February 10, the Aces put on their away jerseys and headed off to London for game 2 of their best of 3 series up one game. Stratford was still riding a high from the London tournament and they were certainly fired up for this game. The moment the puck was dropped the Aces took control of the play, setting the bar high, they cruised to a 5-0 victory ending the Devilettes hopes of a Championship weekend.

On Sunday, February 18, the Aces started round two with home ice advantage, facing the Chatham Outlaws. The Outlaws were a commendable adversary for the Stratford team, having defeated the mighty Guelph Jr Gryphons, but the Aces were well prepared and ready to give the home town fans a show. The Aces once again took control of the game early in the first period and didn’t look back as they downed the Outlaws 5-1.  Aveleen Flood made three Outlaw arrests, opening up the scoring in the first and hand cuffing the Outlaw goalie twice in the third for the hat trick.

On Saturday, February 24, Stratford saddled up to make the long voyage down the 401 to face the Outlaws for game 2. In a back and forth affair, the Outlaws were on the attack with their backs against the wall. Chatham battled tooth and nail for two scoreless periods and the game could have gone either but the Aces got on the board with a breakaway goal from Skylar Fadelle. With the game winding down, the Aces got sent to the penalty box on a questionable call. The Outlaws pulled their goalie for a six on four power play, deep in Stratford territory with a minute remaining in the game when Olivia Rau made a desperate clearing attempt to send the puck down the ice, heading into the Outlaw corner. As the puck crossed the red line at center ice it began to curl to the left, passed the blue line, curled more to the left and hit the dead center of the back of the net for the empty net goal to solidify the win for the Aces. Following the game, on a phone interview, superfan Tim Rau was quoted “Wow! I never imagined watching twenty straight hours of Olympic curling would pay off but it sure did!”

Congratulations to the Sommers Generator Systems Atom A Aces on qualifying for the LLFHL Championship weekend and the Ontario Women’s Hockey Provincials!
