Three tough battles lead to three points for the Aces
This past weekend was busy for the Sommers Generator Systems Atom A Aces as they played three home games and were able to come away with three more points. On Friday the Guelph Gryphons came to Stratford only to fall to the Aces 4-1. Saturday the St. Thomas Panthers prowled into town and the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie. Sunday the Wilmot Wolverines leapt into action shutting the Aces out 2-0.

Friday night the Aces had an offensive surge as the downed Guelph 4-1. The "Run and Gun" offence of Stratford saw four pucks hit the back of the net. The first two goals came in the first period. One off the stick of Tessa Burdett and the other was by Kiara Mcgregor as Hannah Mogk hit her with a saucer pass to spring her down the ice. In the second period McKenzie Parsons dug the puck out of the corner to set up Ella Boersma at the point. Boersma had the cannon primed and ready to fire as she unleashed a howitzer from the blue line that even the great Terry Soper would have had no chance on. The third period the Aces struck again as Victoria Campbell found Kenleigh Soper at the back door and Soper made no mistake for the Aces fourth of the night. Aces defensive pairings of Katie Antonio and Ella Boersma, Olivia VanStraaten and Olivia Cote-Wawryszyn, and Charlee Gethke and Hannah Mogk played amazing with Grace Kipfer between the pipes. They completely shut down the Guelph offence keeping them to the outside and making them pay in the corners limiting them to one single goal.
On Saturday the St. Thomas Panthers came to town and the home crowd was witness to a 1-1 tie. Stratford got off to a bit of a slow start but the Aces held off the Panther attack to keep the game scoreless after the first. In the second period Parsons hit McGregor with a pass in the corner and Kiara fired the puck from the side of the net to tuck the puck in the net short side over the goalie's shoulder. St. Thomas responded with  a goal in the third to tie the game up and the game ended in a draw.
Sunday the home crowd was treated to another defensive display in a back and forth affair as the Aces hosted the Wilmot Wolverines. The Aces "iron curtain" defense and some acrobatic saves by Grace Kipfer kept the game close but it just wasn't enough to tame the pesky Wolverines as they found the back of the net twice. The Aces offense were once again unable to solve the Wolverine goalie as they were shut out 2-0.
The ladies are going to take this week to re-group with a couple practices to gear up for the world famous Stratford Aces hockey tournament next weekend.
Good Luck Aces!!
