Icing shoulda been on the cake...
Needing a win or a tie to lock up a berth
at Provincials the Stratford Cooper Standard Bantam B Aces were in tough on
Sunday morning against the South Huron Sabres.
The Sabres had the only goal of the first period scoring on a breakaway from center red line in.
Avery Boyes brought the home side even again with Joanna Van De Walle collecting a helper on the play. Less than a minute later the Sabres pulled ahead again on another breakaway. Before the end of the second period the Sabres added a third goal on another breakaway that looked like a carbon copy of the prior goal.
Undeterred the Aces bounced back and tied the game at 3’s early in the third. Boyes collected her second goal of the game and Nash her second assist of the game on the equalizer. Following what appeared to be a routine icing call, South Huron picked up what ended up being the game winner.
In order to control their own destiny the Bantam B’s now need a win against West Huron on Wednesday night.
