Aces Tournament
The Optimist Club of Downie faced the Waterloo Ravens in their first game of the Stratford Aces Festival Cup.  Stratford opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Emily Patterson, assisted by Maggie Schweitzer.  Waterloo responded in the second with a powerplay goal, then scored again to take the lead.  The Aces battled hard to tie things up but could not capitalize on their opportunities.  Waterloo secured the win with an empty net goal with 15 seconds left on the clock.  Game MVP Megan Jackson was stellar in net.

The Midget A Aces were edged 4-3 by the Etobicoke Dolphins in their second game of the Aces tournament.  Stratford was again first on the scoreboard with a goal by Maggie Schweitzer and maintained the lead for the first period.  After Etobicoke sank one in, game MVP, Shannon Jewitt responded for the Aces.  The Etobicoke offence came alive in the third period scoring three consecutive goals.  Taegan Haynes notched a single marker late in the third in a comeback attempt.  Assists were earned by Caroline McDowell, Aden Green and Emily Patterson.  

The Midget A Aces blanked the Vaughan Flames, 3-0, in the third round robin game of the Aces tourney.  Maggie Schweitzer, Emily Patterson, and game MVP, Aden Green, notched single markers.  Taegan Haynes earned two assists, and Nicole Marriage with one.  The defensive wall of Kayla Veldman, Julie Van Nes, Jessica Barton, Shannon Jewitt, Alexis Brooks and Katelyn Hawkins fought hard to fend off 5 penalty kills in the third period to shut down the Flames.  Megan Jackson earned the shut-out.  

The Downie Optimist Midget A Aces lost a close match in overtime to the Etobicoke Dolphins in semi-final action of the Aces tournament. The Aces came out strong securing a two goal lead on goals from Emily Patterson and Jaime Van Nes, assisted by Jessica Barton and Julie Van Nes.  Etobicoke responded with two unanswered goals to tie the game, then scored with two minutes left in overtime to advance to the finals. The game MVP was awarded to Caroline McDowell.
