Atom B's win their third tournament gold medal!
The Atom B Aces captured their third tournament gold medal this weekend in the Durham West tournament.

The aces started the weekend with a bang, beating the host team Durham West Lightning 6-0. The Aces offence was led by Ryley Jacobs who scored two and assisted on a third. McKenzie Dietrich also added two of her own and Abby Gilchrist, and Sophie Bogdon added singles. Danielle Bast, and Lauren Steel played strong defensive games to back up goal tender Ella Wouters who recorded her first of 3 shut outs of the weekend.

The second game had the Aces meeting the Ennismore Eagles, and the Aces proved once again that they were the team to beat. The Aces won the game 5-0. Hailey Goforth netted two goals and Dietrich, Jacobs, and Gilchrist each added singles. Jessica Rae and Kaeley Dunseith battled to keep the puck out of our end, helping Wouters record her second shut out.

The third game was going to be the biggest challenge for the Aces as they were matched up against the Scarborough Sharks. The Sharks had played their entire season without a loss, however the Stratford girls were more than ready for the challenge. The Aces came out on fire and handed the Sharks their first loss. Sophie Bogdon, and Hailey Goforth scored for the Aces as well as Sydnie Miller who missed the first two games battling a nasty virus. The Sharks scored two of their own goals, but could not put any more past the Aces goalie. Anika Akroyd-Snider and Emma Gansevles played very strong games.

Saturday evening the Aces met the Gloucester Stars and managed to scrape out a 1-1 tie, as they were tired from their morning match against Scarborough. Mia Keupfer netter the lone Stratford goal.

Sunday afternoon, the Aces met the Scarborough Sharks once again in the tournament gold medal game. The first two periods were scoreless, but full of action. Amber Van Nes had a number of great shots from the blue line, and Neely Clarke had some great opportunities in front of the Scarborough net. Finally with only 4 minutes left in the third period, Sydnie Miller popped in the winner. The entire team rallied together to fend off the extra Scarborough attacked in the final minutes to secure the gold medal. Aces goalie Ella Wouters was named the game MVP!
