Peewee A Aces Win Cambridge Roadrunners Tournament
Dunny’s Source for Sports Peewee A Aces captured the Cambridge Roadrunners Tournament on the Weekend.

On Friday Stratford met up with the Etobicoke Dolphins. Etobicoke took the lead in the first period and it would remain that way until Stratford tied the score @ 11:13 left in the third period on a goal from Kelsey Dixon assisted by Leah Matthews. Etobicoke answered back 9 seconds later to regain the lead. Stratford would tie the game on an unassisted goal by Erin Kuepfer 3 minutes later. Kelsey Dixon gave Stratford the lead with 8 minutes to play with the assist going to Matthews. Paula Wouters added an insurance goal on a feed from Dixon with a little over a minute to play to take the 4-2 win. Game MVP was Kelsey Dixon.

Stratford’s second game of the day was against the Waterloo Ravens II team. Stratford jumped out to an early 2 goal lead with the first going to Courtney Simpson from Kaitlyn Mathieson; Alexa Horne made it 2-0 from Paula Wouters and Taylor Powell. Waterloo made the game interesting in the second drawing to within one, and it would remain that way to the end of the game with Rylee Kaufman making key saves to preserve the win. Game MVP was Tessa Deighton who played a strong game on defense.

On Saturday Stratford faced the Kitchener Lady Rangers who were looking to avenge a 4-2 loss a week before in Stratford. Kitchener controlled the game and lead Stratford by three goals until midway through the third period Courtney Simpson broke the goose egg and ruined the Kitchener shutout, and earning game MVP honors.

Stratford met the London Devilettes in the semi-final. The game was a very fast paced that remained scoreless until London opened the scoring late in the third. Jocelyn Ballantyne returned to the game after a nasty collision with a London player and would tie the game with 1:47 to go in the third on a wicked wrist shot that went bar down on the Kitchener tender. Assists went to line mates Carly Wouters and Laura Chapman, who were strong on the fore-check all game long. London was still on their heels when 11 seconds later Kelsey Dixon would seal the deal with helpers to Courtney Simpson and Leah Matthews. Creasyn Jordan played very well earning the 2-1 win and a trip to the finals. Game MVP went to Jocelyn Ballantyne.

Stratford met Waterloo Ravens I in the final on Sunday at the Hespler center. Both teams came to play on Sunday and the game proved to be a defensive battle. Megan Rauser, Eden Lalonde, Anna Mohr and Taylor Powell played well defensively. Stratford finally drew first blood in the third period on a goal by Kelsey Dixon from Leah Matthews and Jocelyn Ballantyne.  Creasyn Jordan continued to shut the door throughout the game earning the shutout and the win. Game MVP was Leah Matthews. The tournament win was a total team effort with everyone contributing throughout the tournament.
