Bantam BB Strike GOLD at home !
The Stratford Bantam BB girls team, sponsored by the Egg Farmers of Ontario, won the Festival Cup this weekend with conviction.  The team managed four wins and a tie over the weekend to clinch their second tournament win. But it didn't come easy and without significant effort from every player.  After the final buzzer, an elated coach Tigani stated "Five games with zero goals against is a testament to the goalie, defense and the team buying into a total defensive posture. We took care of our end first."

Overall the team scored 14 goals and didn't allow a single goal all tournament. Goaltender Madeline Mortimer was stellar all weekend and the defense of Meg Schooderwoerd, Megan Bach, Arianna Catalan, Neave Goris, Ashley Hodgson and Leah Yantzi all worked together to keep the opponents out of harms way.     Friday started off with two third period goals in a 2 - 0 win over Lambton. Eve Greig and Sadie Long scored while Alyssa Eidt picked up an assist. That win got the team going as they followed that up with a 6 - 0 win over North York.  Goals were scored from Erica Pletsch, Jordie Smith, Hodgson, Nicole Simmons and 2 from Greig while assists came from Smith (2), Hodgson, Greig, Yantzi, Bach, Simmons and Anna Tigani.   On Saturday Stratford faced off against a tough Walkerton team. In a fast paced, physical game neither team could score in a 0 - 0 tie. In their fourth game, requiring at least a tie to play on Sunday, Stratford took on Bluewater whom they hadn't beaten this year. In another fast, physical game the girls came through with a 4 - 0 win. Simmons, Tigani and Greig (with a pair) all scored. Assists went to Eidt, Meg Feore and Bach.    In the finals on Sunday against Walkerton both teams battled hard. The Aces were back to full strength with Marissa Hawkins back in the lineup, allowing Hodgson to move back to defence and score a beauty from the point on an assist from Pletsch. For most of the second period Walkerton dominated in the offensive zone but all they got was a goal post. The defense and Mortimer were tested numerous times but they wouldn't give in. In the third period Pletsch picked off a defensive clearing attempt and moved the puck to Smith. Smith made an excellent deke on the Walkerton defender and skated in alone and scored on a great wrist shot. Walkerton kept coming on offense and got another goal post but that is all they could get past Mortimer who had great timing for her best game of the year.    The entire coaching staff is proud of the effort put forward by the entire team.
