Egg Farmers of Ontario Bantam BB - Bantam BB Aces win Gold at Markham Starsfest
Submitted By Deirdre Goris on Monday, September 17, 2018
The Stratford Bantam BB girls hockey team sponsored by the Egg Farmers of Ontario are off to a great start to the season!

The Egg Farmer Bantams opened their season with two exhibition wins against Bluewater, showing incredible hustle and effort in both games.  This past weekend the girls travelled to Markham/Stouffville to compete in the Markham Starsfest tournament. Friday night started off strong when Eve Greig scored on the first shift of the game to put the Aces in an early lead. Nicole Simmons added another goal ending with a final 2 - 0 win over North York. Madeline Mortimer recorded the shutout.   Game two Saturday didn't start as well as Friday, as Stratford surrendered their first goal of the season to Toronto Leaside in the first minute of the game.  But the Aces battled back and took over the lead with goals by Greig, Jordie Smith and a blistering point shot from Megan Bach. An aggressive Stratford team got into some penalty trouble but hung on for an exciting finish and a 3 - 2 win.  Game three Saturday saw Stratford battle hard against the host Markham-Stouffville for another 3 - 2 win. Erica Pletsch started the scoring, Ashley Hodgson scored on a nice passing play from defensive partner Leah Yantzi and Meg Feore got the game winning goal. The win sent the team to the finals. On Sunday against Toronto Leaside the gold medal game had some great back and forth action but it was Anna Tigani who finally opened the scoring for Stratford.  The Leaside team would fight back near the end of the second period and almost score on a disallowed goal - thankfully that was the only one that got by goaltender Mortimer who recorded another shutout,  Aces clinched the championship with a close 1 - 0 victory.  The entire team showed great hustle and determination all weekend and the win was well deserved!  Up next, back to back games with Kitchener this coming weekend.  GO ACES!
