Seniors Strike Silver
The Stratford Kinsmen Senior Aces placed second this weekend in the Stratford Festival Cup Challenge. The Seniors came out ready to play from the drop of the first puck Friday night.

The seniors faced off against the Wilmot Wolverines to start round robin action Friday night. The Aces won 5-3, with Katie MacSorley recording a hat trick in her debut as a Senior Ace. Jodi Neeb & Courtney Downham also netted one each in the win.

Saturday afternoon the Aces squared off against returning tournament champs London TPH. The Seniors battled hard at the Allman and took home their second win of the weekend. Stratford won 3-1 in a gritty game which improved their tourney record to 2 and 0.

Saturday evening saw the Kinsmen playing the Woodstock Freeze in their final round robin game. The Seniors struck first, going up 1-0 early in the first with an unassisted goal from Courtney Canal. The freeze tied it up in the second but the Aces regained the lead before the period was out. After an aggressive third period, riddled with penalties on both sides, the Aces came out with their third win of the weekend, beating Woodstock 4-2 in the contest.

Early Sunday morning, the top seeded seniors went up against Wilmot in the semi finals. It was Wilmot who struck first to go up 1-0 with only 3 minutes left in the first period. The Aces scored a mere 12 seconds later to tie it up. The Aces were relentless in their attack in the second and third periods posting a convincing 5-1 win. Katie MacSorley & Jodi Neeb each had 2 goals, with Tara Chadwick rounding out the Stratford scoring. Courtney Canal & Courtney Downham each had 2 assists in the effort.

Sunday afternoon the Stratford Kinsmen headed in to the championship game with an unblemished record. The Aces again met London TPH which set the stage for a strong Senior final. After a scoreless first period London capitalized on a 2 man advantage giving them the lead. Early in the third however, Stratford struck back when MacSorley converted on a pass from defenseman Jana Roberts.  The two teams fought hard in an exciting battle but no decision was made in regulation. 5 minutes of overtime was also not enough to determine the gold medalist. In a 3 shooter showdown, the Stratford Aces saw their first loss on the weekend, leaving them with a silver medal to show for their efforts.

The Stratford Kinsmen Senior B Aces see action again this Saturday as they head to Petrolia for regular season action. The Seniors want to again extend a big thank you to all of their sponsors as well as the tournament organizers for all of their efforts in making this weekend such a success.
